Not much you can do apart from checking and making sure there isn't a foreign object inside, and that the disc itself isn't warped.
Doesn't sound very promising though. It usually means that the drive is dying, and on it's last legs.
In the meantime, and laptop drives are expensive, turn the speed down.
CDSpeed2000 have a utility on their site for this purpose, and it's free.
It's called "CD/DVD Speed" from memory.
