I found it... vers ion 2.52 has it... but the test cd that I created is kinda jerky... is that from the variable bitrate?

jerky playback may be due to a combination of a film framerate (23fps) combined with a CQ_VBR max that's too low. try bumping up the CQ_VBR max or going to 29fps.

if ur player does 740x480, it should do 352x480 easy. what were ur CQ_VBR min/max settings, rez, and framerate on that test VCD?

It was jerky at those settings too...

It plays fine... then jerks... plays fine... then jerks...

settings were max 1800kbps min 0
I am workin on a test of 352x480 @ with cbr to see what is what...
unfortuantely... my CD burner doesnt want to read my PNY 80min CD's so Im off to the store... I was lookin for an excuse for a new plextor!

even with the jerkyness, using full preserve aspect ratio, it was only 1/2 the screen hi... do you think I should do just plain full?

what framerate did u use on the output mpeg? 23fps?
encode a couple of 352x480 mpeg1 test clips using

1) CQ_VBR max of 1900 at 23fps
2) CQ_VBR max of 1900 at 29fps

1/2 screen high? sounds like the aspect ratio setting for the source is incorrect. before actually encoding, set the output rez to 640x480 (4:3)and try different aspect ratios for the source under the Advanced tab and use the preview feature ("File->Preview") to confirm that it is going to encode with the correct aspect ratio in the final mpeg. once you've nailed the correct aspect ratio settings and video arrange method, just modify the rez of the output mpeg back to 352x480, encode, burn and cross ur fingers.

another question - is the source widescreen/letterbox?

if u use a video arrange method = "Center (custom size)", u can fully control the aspect ratio on the final mpeg. add a third 352x480 test clip to the previous two using a "Center (custom size)" with a (image) rez of 344x280 (assuming the source is a 720x480 16x9 widescreen video AND the top/bottom borders have been clipped). make it 29fps just to avoid the jerky playback.

hmmm.. very strange... all the stuff I have burned so far is 23.976

I think that I have a test clip burned at Center Custom Size where i specified 352x480 as the custom size... this seemed to work...

I just installed the shiny new plexwriter and will be working on the test stuff shortly

If you are stateside look me up... Ill be on for another couple of hours...

[url=********members.roadfly.com/jcondejr/apeclip.mpg]here is a link to a 13 second clip from the 352x480 mpeg1 i encoded of "planet of the apes". i used a CQ_VBR 0-1800 and a framerate of 23fps, with audio=44.1/128kbps. at these settings, i was able to get 74 minutes worth of the movie on the first 80min CD-R blank.
