personaly I think the harder it is to copy dvds the better to a point, because the harder it is, the less amount of people will do it then film companies wont try so hard to make them a pain to copy by padding them out with crap and encodeing them at a high bitrate.

I find it easies to just re encode the film with rempeg then use ifoedit to remux the m2v file back into the main vobs, then you get to keep everything.

Speed wise, I have a Athlon 1.2ghz 1 gig ram 60 gig hard disk and encoding a 2 hour film at 70% quality, frame mode prediction. It takes me 12-14 hours, so I gues my computer aint workin right either. thats on XP and millenium.

Wish I could encode a dvd in 5 hours :-(

I don't know why mine would be so much faster then everyone else's. . . I've heard other people have the same amount of time that I have. Some even report faster. Maybe it has something to do with the mobo, or the hard drive speed. I can't imagnie what it woud be.

the newbie guide has step by step instructions on REmpeg 2 if you need to use it. I haven't tried other programs though they may be faster. I can't imagine why it shoudl take THAT long on your hard drive unless there is somthing wrong with the pc.

Taxidermista, whats the speed difference on using tmpeg and using Rempeg?

With my rig, two hours movie:

ReMPEG2: 14/16 hours (so-so quality)
TMPGEnc: 8/10 hours (very good)
CCE 2.5: 5/6 hours (excellent)
