Default external cd rom driver for toshiba

can any body tell me if i need an driver for an external laptop cdrom as windows will not detect that it is there.he model no of the laptop
is a sattelite 230cx and the external cd rom is a xm-1402B or if anybody knows of another way for windows 98 to detect it i would be very grateful

Going to need more infor...on your computer and cd rom
according to toshiba they don't make a 230cx no sign of you cd either
is it toshiba or ibm

Divers, hampy means satellite 230cx. Look []here. And that xm-1402B is Toshiba 6x CD-Rom drive.

Hampy, is it listed in Windows Device Manager ?

no the cd is not in the device manager.the main aim of me getting
the cd running is so i can format and re-install buut am worried that if
i do the computer will not recognise the cd and will be stuuck.strangely enough the hard disk drive is not listed in the d/manager either and have installed the ide controller but it has a problem.any ideas cause i really need to do a clean install....
