Unhappy Getting a clicking sound on originals and backups...

sponsored links

I have had my PS2 for about 18 months, it has a NEO2 installed.

Recently I have been getting a clicking noice when booting Region X and 9 times out of 10 it won't boot. I use to only get the noice when playing backups but it seems worse now. When it does finally boot, I can hardly ever get a backup to run.

I tried my sons original Robot Wars game and I can't get that to boot either. Yet GT3 boots perfectly every time and also DVD movies play perfectly.

I have read on here about adjusting the laser height could this help ?

I get the feeling it's playing backups like GTA3 that ruin the laser as they seem to be streaming data all the time, where as a lot of games load a level and then that's it until the next level needs loading. Although most games stream music this doesn't seem to give the laser as much abuse.

Theres something about this post I don't understand. Why should the ps2 laser lose its life after 18 months when playing backups? The lifetime of the laser diode in the system should be on the order of 1,000-10,000 hours, so how can it crap out after 18 months?
