Default ? about gba roms and flash carts

sponsored links

am considering getting a flash advance cart. i was thinking of getting a 128 meg setup.

1) what's the largest game/are there any games that wouldn't fit on a 128 meg cart?

2) i d/l'ed a rom, windows showed it to be 8 meg, 128 meg cart divided by 8 meg roms = 16 roms on a cart? is this right or is the 128 meg misleading?

3) what all do i need besides the flash cart?

4) in the newsgroup, roms were designated with E, U, or J. is this Europe, US, and Japan?

5) and unrelated to the flash advance, anyone have the tv-out gadget for the gba and does it have pretty good quality?

On 128 card you will get 2 64mb roms or 4 32mb roms, check www.isonews.com to find out the size of the roms, you will also need the flash advance linker with software so that you can flash the cart via your parallel port on the pc m8.

1 & 2) Cartridge games are measured in Bits(not Bytes). b = bit, B = Byte (1 Byte = 8 bits). The Flash carts are Mb. The largest GBA games out now are 128Mb(or 16MB). Right now only Jap games are that big but you can expect UK and US games of that size soon. You can put 1 of those on the 128Mb flash cart. GBA games also come in sizes of 32Mb(4MB) and 64Mb(8MB). You can get 4 or 2 games of those sizes on the 128Mb cart, respectively. It is also possible to mix and match games of different sizes on the cart. I think eventually games will get bigger, but you can always buy a bigger flash cart and use the older one for smaller games. I bought the 256Mb cart with mine because of this.

3) Besides the cart, you will need the Flash Linker(cart programmer), a DB25 Male-Male cable(RS232 or Printer port cable...not 100% sure) and an AC Adapter if you do not want to use batteries(6 AAA). You can also buy the GB Bridge, which allows you to play GB/GBC games from the Flash Cart on your GBA. The Bridge will only work with Flash Cart Pro(or Turbo). All carts 128Mb or bigger are Pro(or Turbo).

4) Yes.

5) Yes, however the display is actually boxed to about 70% of the screen. There is a switch to make the image full-screen, but the picture is noticeably distorted. I have one of these and I am very happy with it. Is may be a pain in the a$$ to install though. And the one I got was a cheap clone of the TV de Advance. The RCA cables are really cheap and sometimes the picture goes out and the cables need to be jiggled to get it working again. The clone I got wasn't worth the $15 it saved me, so try to get the actual one made by Interact(GameShark).

Good luck,
barracuda

You should check out www.cd64.com , supposedly the cheapest of the stores selling the cart.
