Default Haivng trouble burning on the fly at 24x [Intel; ; winXP]

I have a petiumIII 800mhz with 256mb ram and Windows XP

I have a liteon 24x10x40 and a mitsubishi diamon data 50x cd-rom
th thing is when i copy of the harddrive i can burn at 24x fine
however when i try to copy on the fly it only burn at around 8-10 speed the whole way through
i am using tdk's for both reading and writing
when i read an image in my cd-rom it never reaches speeds above 16x (did a check with nero speed thingy) however my liteon reaches full speed (40x) towards the end
i want to be able to burn on the fly because it currently takes about 10 minutes to burn a full cd on the fly whereas it only takes about 3 minutes from the hardrive

Any help
i really wanna burn at 24x on the fly
not 8speed

thanks

It's clear that the CDROM is the bottle neck.

Try enabling DMA for the CDROM if it's not. And move it to the other IDE channel if it's on the same channel with the burner now.

Connect the CDROM to the same IDE ribbon cable with the HD. Set the jumper at the back of the CDROM to Slave (SL) position.

Leave the burner on the secondary IDE channel. Make sure its jumper is at the Master (MA) position.

Let me make it a bit clearer for you.

Open the PC box and you'll see 2 IDE ribbon cables. One is connected to the HD, this is for the primary IDE channel. A ribbon cable has 2 connectors for Master and Slave devices. One of these 2 connectors is already connected to the HD so use the 2nd connector for the CDROM. But you should remember to put the jumper at the back of the CDROM to Slave (SL) position because the HD must be the Master on the primary IDE channel.

Similarly, the 2nd ribbon cable is for the secondary IDE channel. Leave the burner connected on this cable but check and make sure its jumper is at the Master (MA) position.

Post back if you've got problems.
