Default Back-up OS???

I am just curious if you have a back-up OS can you put it on other comps? The reason I am asking is because Microsoft says that you will have to register the os. So the way I see it how can you not register???

XP Pro Corp Ed, you can , as it doesnt not require activation when it detect new hardware, but with the retail Home and Pro edition, you will need to call Microsoft to reactivate if the hardware are different between the two computers.
