Post Help with swapping hard drives...

sponsored links

I am wanting to swap hard drives on a couple of computers.

#1 has a 20GHD with a slow processor & the memory cannot be upgraded.
It has Windows 98SE installed.

#2 has a 6GHD with a faster processor & the memory can be upgraded quite a bit as well as the processor. It has Windows 98 installed.

I want to swap the hard drives for obvious reasons. Can this be done fairly easy? Would like some information.

Thanks

Yep, it's not that big a task. Win98's plug & play makes it fairly simple but it wouldn't hurt to dig out your installation CDs for Motherboard, modem, monitor, printer etc just in case.

Swap the drives over & power up, Win98 will have a wonderful time reporting all this fantastic new hardware it's just found, let the hardware setup wizard do it's thing and after 15 minutes or so of Windows promted rebooting you should be set to go.

I agree with Darkman. Install the 20 GB drive in the faster PC first. If the installation gives you any problem you can always replace with the original drive and have the faster system operating. Unless you have some devices requiring drivers that you don't have the disk for and are not in the Windows database you shouldn't have any problems however.

Take notes of the hardware you have, just incase they are not plug & Play, so you know what to search for on net, if you dont have the original drivers on disk.
