Default Link problem

I touched on this during another post about IE 5.5. I have a problem where if i click a link in an email, the browser comes up and then freezes before anything loads. The top 1/4 of the browser window is invisable so that whatever is on the desktop shows thru, but the rest is white as is normal before the page loads. So i end up with a blank frozen browser except for that 1/4 top left section.

However, when i say frozen i do not mean that i can't close it. It closes as normal when i click the X.

Also, it sometimes happens when i click a link on a web page, but only very seldom on certain pages. It happens every time when i click a link in an email tho. So whatever it is, it's common to IE and outlook.

I tried repairing IE 5.5 but no luck. Then i went back to 5.0 and that fixed it. So i decided whatever it was would probably be gone if i downloaded 5.5 again. I did, and the problem returned. Tried repair again to no avail. So it's something thats unique to 5.5. I doubt anyone will know what the problem is, but any suggestions as to what to look for may help.

By the way, i have used 5.5 since it came out, and this just started recently. I suspect it's something i installed or some config i did.

Thanks...

UPDATE:

I tried composing a new mail, and in the message all i put was a link to google.com. I have my message window set to show edit/source/preview. I tried the link in preview and the same problem occurs. Then i go to source (i know HTML quite well) and eliminated all unnesessary code till nothing was left but the html, head and body tags and the link. The link is properly coded......

<A
href="***********.google.com/">***********.google.com/</A>

So basically, there is nothing in the code that could cause the problem. Yet the link will still cause the problem when clicked in preview mode. I checked all the settings in options and cannot find anything that could cause it. I even reinstalled just outlook express by itself.

HELP!!!!

Heres another update........

I realized it DOES happen on many web pages, but only when it's a new window. It won't happen if you click a link that is in a web page that reuses the page. But when it's one of those links that leaves the page it's on open and opens a new window for the URL of the link, thats when it happens. And thats why it always happens in an email........because the link has to open a new browser window !

At the moment i am looking at a java problem. Not sure thats what it is, but i know it's java that lets you code a web page to do that with a link. However, that wouldn't explain the problem in email because as far as i know it doesn't use java to open a link.

Kinda funny.........after all this i figured it out before anyone replied ! *S*

Seems some system (i think) files were overwritten during an install which caused an error prompt when trying to install another prog. The message was "incomplete verion of RPC stub". I downloaded a patch from MS that overwrites the files back to the originals.

I'd say thanks, but i did all the work ! *S* hehehe
