So much for the "crap burner" theory. A perfect reply.

greybeerded, for some useful opinions on the Lite-On 24x from actual users see How good is the Liteon24x??

Are you serious? Wow what is the world coming to? I decided to check what the lowest price at Pricewatch for the TDK VeloCD 24x10x40 and it was $133. The Lite On 24x10x40x is just $73. If they are the same why is the TDK twice as much? Are you sure the TDK 24x is a Lite On drive? I am not calling you a liar just confused of how TDK thinks they can compete if they repackage the Lite On drive and double the price. Is the TDK VeloCD 32x10x40 at Best Buy now for $179 a Lite On drive also?

Cool

Two Dog Band,

Are you aware that TDK is a rebadger and not a manufacturer?

Unless you know exactly what you are getting from TDK, you may wind up with a surprise rebadge.

At TDK 24x Support, there are currently three 24x models listed, which could be from 3 different manufacturers.

greybeerded,

I agree with Hoss. This is a very unusual problem. Using a Nero trial version should confirm whether there is a problem with the packaged install disk.

Ok one of the 24x TDKs looks like it is a Lite On.

VeloCD 241040X - Burn Proof
VeloCD 241040B - Smart Burn

I also read that my 12x TDK is a Plextor. Can't they stick with one manufacturer so we know if they are good or not? This original poster is having problems with his 24x but we don't know if it is the Plextor version or the Lite On version (I would say Lite On because Plextor has an awesome track record).

There might even be more versions that I haven't found.

If you think TDK is ripping you off, then think back to the days of turntables. You know that $120 Shure V15 or Ortofon cartridge you bought. The store you bought it from only paid $12 for the thing. Yes indeedee folks, there was a 100% mark-up on cartridges.

I worked for Lombards Stereo and a brief time for Pacific Stereo and I cringed everytime I sold one of those to an unsuspecting victim errrr, consumer.
